Description:
The national bird of India, is a colourful bird.
The term “peacock” is commonly used to refer to birds of both sexes.
Technically, only males are peacocks.
Females are peahens, and together, they are called peafowl.
They have fan-shaped feathers.
They have a white patch under the eye and a longneck.
The male of the species is more colourful than the female.
They have a spectacular bronze-green tail of around 200 elongated feathers.
The female is brownish, slightly smaller than the male and lacks the tail.
Tail feathers have eye-like spots, surrounded with red, green, gold and red feathers.
The wild Indian peafowl is native to dense, hilly forests in India.
Food:
Peacocks are ground-feeders that eatinsects, worms, snails, frogs, snakes, grasses, seeds, and various kinds of crops.
Behaviour:
Wild Indian peafowl usually lives in small groups.
These birds are weak flyers, spending most of their time on the ground.
They normally roost (rest and sleep) in tall trees at night
The height of the trees helps protect the peafowl from hunters.
To warn of danger, peafowl make loud screaming and beeping calls

Lord Krishna is always presented with colourful feathers of peacock.
Indian peacock is also regarded as the vehicle of Shanmukha, son of Lord Shiva.

One day old baby peacock can walk, eat and drink without assistance.
They can fly, despite their huge tail feathers.
