A monument is a structure built to remember a person, an event which may be historical or related to any particular community of society. Examples of monuments includes statues, buildings, memorials etc.

2. Named after Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built it.
3. It is 324m in height like that of an 81 storey building.
4. It was constructed from 1887 – 1889 as an entrance for 1889’s World Fair.
5. It is the 2nd tallest free structure in France after “Millau Viaduct”.
Famous MonumentsBig Ben
1. It is the nick name for Great Bell of Clock at Palace of Westminster in London.
2. Its original name is Tower Clock, but renamed in 2012 as Elizabeth Tower to mark Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth ||.
3. It was completed in 1859.
4. It is 315 ft (96 m) tall.
5. Big Ben is the largest of tower’s five bells.
Famous MonumentsColosseum
1. It is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of city of Rome, Italy.
2. It is also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, the greatest amphitheatre ever built.
3. Although partially ruined due to earthquakes and stone robbers, it is still an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome.
4. It can hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators.
5. In 2018, it was most visited place with 7.4 million visitors.

1. It is the largest unfinished Roman Catholic church in Barcelona.
2. Its construction began in 1882 and is combination of Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau.
3. Its construction is based solely on private donations.
4. The body of architect is buried in crypts under it.
5. It is anticipated that the building can be completed by 2026.

1. It is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor in New York, in the United States.
2. It was a gift from people of France to people of United States.
3. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886.
4. The Statue of Liberty is a figure of Libertas, a robed Roman liberty goddess.
5. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata. A broken shackle and chain lay at her feet as she walks forward. The statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States.

1. It is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
2. Constructed between 1922 and 1931.
3. The statue is 30 m high excluding 8 m high pedestal.
4. The arms stretch 28 m wide.
5. Itis located at the peak of the 700-metre Corcovadomountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Famous MonumentsLeaning Tower of Pisa
1. It is also called freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa.
2. Its construction began in 12th century and completed in 14th.
3. Due to soft surface it leaned on one side resulting in 4 degree in now.
4. The height of the tower is 55.86 m from the ground on the low side and 56.67 m on the high side.The width of the walls at the base is 2.44 m.
5. The tower has 296 or 294 steps.
Famous MonumentsTaj Mahal
1. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial for his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
2. Constructed entirely out of white marble in the 17th century, it is among the finest edifices of Mughal architecture.
3. The white marble structure on a square plinth is surrounded by four minarets on corners.
4. The most recognizable feature is the white dome at the peak of the mausoleum. Often called the ‘onion dome’, it rises to about 35 meters (115 feet) and is surrounded by four other domes.
5. The Taj Mahal attracts from 7 to 8 million visitors annually, with more than 0.8 million from overseas.
