  • Freedom fighters were those great personalities who blessed their lives for the cause of achievement of freedom from the foundation of the British.
  • They made many sacrifices; we cannot just imagine the amount of pain, hardships, risks, and opposition they must have gone through or faced in rallying the Indians against the Britishers.
  • How wonderfully versatile and talented they were!The freedom and convenient life we enjoy in the present, we owe it to our freedom fighters. Let’s salute them!

1. He was one of the few South Indian kings to provide stiff resistance to British empire-building and sowed the seed of Indian independence in the hearts of generation to follow.
2. He is applauded as a ruler who fought against British colonialism.
India Freedom FightersMangal Pandey (1827-1857)
1. Early martyr of Indian rebellion.

2. Pandey was a soldier of the British Indian army, but rebelled against it.

3. He was executed on 8 April 1857 in Barrackpore.

1. Founding father of Republic of India who played leading role in country’s struggle towards independence and integration of united India.

1. Worked with several revolutionary organisations and became prominent in the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA).

1. She is widely remembered for hoisting the Indian National Congress flag at the Gowalia Tank maiden in Bombay during the Quit India Movement, 1942.

Interesting Facts:

  • In December 1921, when Mahatma Gandhi launched the non-cooperation movement, Azad joined in despite being just a student.
  • Azad also learned archery from the tribal Bhils of erstwhile Jhabua district which helped him during the arms struggle against the Britishers.
  • Bhagat Singh joined Azad following the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, after he was beaten by police officials. Azad trained Singh and others in covert activities.
  • Netaji Bose ranked 4th in Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination.
