Inside A Computer

Let’s see different parts of the Computer.

Computer Parts Description
Inside A ComputerMotherboard
1. A motherboard is basically a printed circuit board used to connect different parts of a computer like the central processing unit, memory, printer, mouse, keyboard, graphics card, and other peripherals through physical slots and interface connectors.
2. If you’ve ever opened up your machine, you might’ve observed different lines going in various directions.
3. These lines constitute a circuit used to allow communication between different hardware devices attached to the motherboard.
4. Electrical signals carrying data information pass through these lines.

Inside A ComputerCPU/Processor
1. The central processing unit (CPU), also called a processor, is located inside the computer case on the motherboard. It is sometimes called the brain of the computer.
2. The basic task a processor has to perform can be divided into three categories:
• It gathers the necessary program data to be processed.
• The CPU then processes the data on the basis of some rules and regulations, known as Instruction Set, it already knows.
• Finally, the processed data is ready. It then follows the steps the programmer has included in the program.
Inside A ComputerRAM (random access memory)
1. RAM is your system’s short-term memory. Whenever your computer performs calculations, it temporarily stores the data in the RAM until it is needed.
2. This short-term memory disappears when the computer is turned off.
3. If you’re working on a document, spreadsheet, or other type of file, you’ll need to save it to avoid losing it.
4. When you save a file, the data is written to the hard drive, which acts as long-term storage.
5. RAM is measured in megabytes (MB) orgigabytes (GB).
6. The more RAM you have, the more things your computer can do at the same time.
Inside A ComputerHard Drive
1. The hard drive is where your software, documents, and other files are stored.
2. The hard drive is long-term storage, which means the data is still saved even if you turn the computer off or unplug it.
3. When you run a program or open a file, the computer copies some of the data from the hard drive onto the RAM.
4. When you save a file, the data is copied back to the hard drive.
5. The faster the hard drive, the faster your computer can start up and load programs.
Inside A ComputerPower Supply Unit
1. The power supply unit in a computer converts the power from the wall outlet to the type of power needed by the computer.
2. It sends power through cables to the motherboard and other components.
Inside A ComputerExpansion Cards
1. Most computers have expansion slots on the motherboard that allow you to add various types of expansion cards.
2. These are sometimes called PCI (peripheral component interconnect) cards.
3. You may never need to add any PCI cards because most motherboards have built-in video, sound, network, and other capabilities.
4. However, if you want to boost the performance of your computer or update the capabilities of an older computer, you can always add one or more cards.

Interesting Facts:

  • The first electronic computer ENIAC weighed more than 27 tons and took up 1800 square feet.
  • Only about 10% of the world’s currency is physical money, the rest only exists on computers.
  • Doug Engelbart invented the first computer mouse in around 1964 which was made of wood.
  • There are more than 5000 new computer viruses are released every month.
  • If there was a computer as powerful as the human brain, it would be able to do 38 thousand trillion operations per second and hold more than 3580 terabytes of memory.
  • HP, Microsoft and Apple have one very interesting thing in common – they were all started in a garage.
