  • The Solar System is the gravitationally bound planetary system of the Sun and the objects that orbit it, either directly or indirectly.
  • The Solar System was formed 4.6 billion years ago.
  • Of the objects that orbit the Sun directly, the largest are the eight planets with the remainder being smaller objects, such as the five dwarf planets and small solar system bodies.


Different planets revolve around Sun in different elliptical orbits:

More Information:

  • Pluto was made a dwarf planet in 2006.It is named after the “Roman God of the Underworld”. It has an erratic orbit.
  • Besides planets, Solar System also consist of Asteroid belt,which lies between orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
  • The Solar System is located in the “Orion Arm”, 26,000 light-years from the center of the “Milky Way”galaxy.
