Types of Trees

Trees are the most essential living component in our nature. Trees help to maintain a balance in the ecosystem.

Broadly, trees are grouped into two primary categories: deciduous and coniferous.

Deciduous Trees	1. It is also called hardwoods. 2. These tree types typically shed their leaves in autumn. 3. Deciduous trees have different-shaped leaves, depending on tree species. 4. Leaf shapes: star, heart and oval. 5. Examples: Oak, Elm, Maple, Willow.
Coniferous Trees	1. Most of these are evergreens, which means you’ll have greenery year-round on these tree types. 2. Coniferous trees have leaves that are needle-shaped. 3. Examples: Pine, Fir, Spruce, Cedar.

Peepal Tree	1. It is a fast-growing tree having heart-shaped leaves with a large crown. 2. It sheds leaves in the month of March and April.
Aloe Vera Tree	1. Aloe Vera plant usually grows to a height of about 12 to 16 inches. 2. It has thick and fleshy leaves with sharp edges but does not have a stem.
Tulsi Plant	1. Tulsi plant is considered as a holy and religious plant in India. 2. Height reaches about 75 cm to 90 cm. 3. The leaves are round oval shaped which contain essential oils.
Amla Plant	1. This type of tree is a medium deciduous plant of height about 8-18 meters. 2. Spreading branches and crooked trunk are the prominent features of this plant.
Tulip Tree	1. Indian Tulip is found in lower dry to wet forest. 2. The height of Indian tulip tree is usually more than 40 feet. 3. The flowers are cup shapes and the leaves are of heart shaped.
Banyan Tree	1. This huge type of tree has extensive branches in order to provide support to it, having height more than 21 m. 2. Leaves are of 10-20 cm long.
Neem Tree	1. Neem tree has bright leaves with height up to 100 feet. 2. A straight and rough trunk is seen in neem trees. 3. Each part of the Neem trees is essential or different purposes.
Turmeric Tree	1. It is also called Indian saffron and is widely cultivated in India. 2. The stem of the turmeric plant is very short which is of 60-90 cm. 3. Flowers are of yellow white and pink.

Trees and Environment:

• Trees are like the lungs of the planet. They breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. Additionally, they provide habitat for birds and other wildlife.
• CO2 is one of the major contributing elements to the greenhouse effect. Trees trap CO2 from the atmosphere. They give us oxygen in return.
• Trees also help to reduce ozone levels in urban areas.
• Trees reduce urban overflow and erosion by storing water and breaking the force of rain as it falls.
• Trees also absorb sound and reduce noise pollution. This is especially important for people who live near freeways.
• Planting trees can also help cool your home in the summer. In the winter, trees can act as windbreaks for your home and will help you save on heating costs.
