Seasons are specific division in a year based on the weather, sunlight and ecological factors. Earth’s orbit around the sun is the main reasons for the seasons on it.

Summer, monsoon and winter are the three seasons of India.


What Causes the Seasons?

Earth’s tilted axis causes the seasons. Throughout the year, different parts of Earth receive the Sun’s most direct rays.

So, when the North Pole tilts toward the Sun, it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

And when the South Pole tilts toward the Sun, it’s winter in the Northern Hemisphere.


Types of Seasons:

The climate of India does not remain constant throughout the year. We have a hot climate, a cold climate and rainfall. As the season changes, our body’s metabolic processes also accordingly changes.

Hence, it is necessary to know that what should we eat and wear during these seasons.

  • Wear thin and loose light-coloured cotton clothes.
  • Wear a white colour cap over our head.

1. Months: June, July, August and September
2. Climate: Humid and Cold
3. Festivals: Onam, Nag Panchami, Teej, Raksha Bandhan, etc.
4. What to Eat:

  • Eat light and moderate food which is easy to digest.
  • Fibrous vegetables, snake gourd, smooth gourd, bitter gourd, etc.
  • Fresh and warm food

5. What to wear:

  • Wear dry clothes.
  • Use umbrellas, raincoats, gumboots, etc. to protect from rain.

3. Festivals: Makar Sankranti, Diwali, Gokul Ashtami, Ganapati, etc.
4. What to Eat:

  • Eat sweets, dried foods, groundnuts, sesame which provides a lot of oil.
  • Eat a lot of carrot halwa, bhakri, gum laddus, dates, almonds, sesame and jaggery which will give a lot of warmth and energy.

5. What to wear:

  • Wear warm woollen clothes like sweaters, shawls, blankets, caps, mufflers.


Interesting Facts:

  • Winter is a hard time for animals. They have a hard time finding food. Many hibernate or sleep more.
  • Plants and trees lose their leaves in response to the shortening days and cooler temperatures of fall.
  • June 21 marks the day when the Earth is turned the most toward the Sun. This is known as Summer Solstice. It is the longest, sunniest day of the year.
  • December 21 marks the day when the Earth is turned the farthest from the Sun. This is known as Winter Solstice. It is the shortest, darkest day of the year.
  • In places like Arizona and Texas, the seasons don’t change much.
  • Some plants stay green all year round and it doesn’t usually snow. These places have a wet, rainy season during the summer, known as monsoon season.
  • Plants produce fruits and vegetable in their seasons. Eating seasonal fruits and vegetable will make you healthy.
